How To Run A Home Based Business

Filed Under (Home Business) by Kevin Sinclair on 27-12-2006

For anyone who wants to earn more money than they’d ever get with a day job, then the only real answer (besides winning the lottery) is to start their own business. Of course, starting a business can be very costly, something that puts starting a traditional business out of the reach of many people.

However, there is an alternative, and that’s starting a business from home. There are several different alternatives a person can choose from, from coming up with a completely new idea and concept and creating their own products, to joining an existing MLM type business, to starting an online business.

Lately, a huge number of people have been lured by the idea of making their millions on the Internet, but the sad fact is, few of them ever make a decent living, let alone a fortune, online. Why is that? Many online opportunities are promoted as being very simple, and easy enough for everyone to do. If that were truly the case, there would be a lot more online success stories today than there are!

One problem people have is too much choice. There are so many different opportunities and ideas, that they try and run with the lot, and end up falling quite heavily, simply because without focus a business is doomed to failure. Another problem is that many people really don’t have any idea about running a business, and don’t think about their home business as they would a real, traditional business.

If you really do want to start a work at home business, and aren’t afraid to put in a lot of time and effort (especially in the beginning) there are a few important things you need to know to set you on the right path.

Firstly, watch your expenditure. An online business can be one of the least expensive businesses to run. Most people already have the basics they need to get started (a computer with an Internet connection). However, the problem comes when they actually start looking at online businesses and means of making money. Suddenly they’re confronted with a million and one different products ALL of which are supposed to guarantee success.

Many people spend hundreds, or even thousands of dollars, very quickly when they’re starting out in the world of Internet business, and soon find that most of it was money down the toilet. To avoid this, you need to work out what it is you’re going to be doing online and create a plan. There are numerous ways of making money on the Internet, including: eBay and other auction sites, affiliate marketing, Adsense (and other contextual advertising), as well as marketing your own product.

Once you know what it is you want to do, then find one very good resource, and stick to it, The hint here is to do a bit of research first, and get honest reviews of any product before you purchase, rather than letting a sales letter induce you to purchase another worthless product.

The next thing you need to focus on is how you’re going to build your business. Most online businesses start with a website (and although there are plenty of sites that promise you don’t need a website of your own, anyone who wants to make a long term living online will need a website). You then need a step-by-step plan you can follow, and you need to be able to follow it!

One of the best things about working from home is also one of the most problematic, and that’s the fact that you can work your own hours. Unfortunately, if you’re not able to discipline yourself you may find that the hours actually spent in front of your computer aren’t enough. It helps if you can work out a day to day plan of exactly what you want to accomplish each day, so that you know you’re on the right track.

Finally, it’s worth remembering that a work at home business, even an online one, will require a certain amount of dedication and effort before you’ll be rewarded with results. It’s not a matter of whipping up a quick website and waiting for the money to start flowing in, and if anyone tells you it is, odds are, they’re lying! Be prepared for months (even years) of hard, consistent work, and you’ll reap the rewards, but fall for too many get-rich-quick schemes and promises and you’ll be back to your day job before you know it.

Two Words that Separate the Online Winners From the Quitters

Filed Under (Business Success) by Kevin Sinclair on 22-12-2006

I’ve just about heard it all when it comes to people’s opinions on how to succeed at starting a business, weather online or offline. Everything from, “you absolutely have to have a business plan” to “failure is imminent without my new software”. Although a business plan is very important and I use some very valuable software applications to grow my business, there is one aspect of success that seems to be very hard for many people to overcome.

Let me start by tell a story about when I first started in internet marketing. Before I began selling anything I hired someone to coach me. To be honest he didn’t have any really revolutionary ideas, pretty much the same as the other guru’s but he was honest with me when I needed to hear the truth. I followed his instructions on researching niches. Once he wrote me with a suggestion that he thought would make it easier for me but I responded saying but I thought what he was suggesting was nearly impossible. I emailed back and told him, “I can’t do that, it’s too hard”. His response was paramount to my success. It changed everything for me. He replied saying, “John, if you think you can’t then you’re probably right”.

I knew exactly what he was saying, my own thoughts about what I thought I could and could not do were holding me back. I decided that very day that I could in fact do what he suggested to find a profitable niche. Not only did I find a very profitable niche, I found 10 profitable niches. I quickly started my first internet business selling a hard good product and it turned out to be a total success. This rest as they say is history.

So I encourage you to ask yourself, what could you do if you removed “I can’t” from your vocabulary and weren’t hindered by what you think are your abilities. I knew nothing about the niche I started in and even so it took off like gangbusters. I learned about my product as I went along. I didn’t know how to build a website but I learned. My success had nothing to do with starting capital because I started with less than $300.

Your success at any business venture has very little to do with talent, money you have to invest, knowledge or the product and a whole host of other excuses that people come up with about why they can’t start an internet business. You success does have everything to do with your determination to succeed and perseverance when challenges come your way. I’m not saying to throw money down the toilet because you don’t want to give up, please use common sense. I am saying, if after a few days, weeks or months and you haven’t made any money, don’t decide that online marketing isn’t for you. Move on to find another niche. There are millions of hungry buyers in thousands of niches waiting to buy. Keep plugging away until you find a need to meet in that niche and fill that need. It will only take a few months to get to know your market.

Every single month, there are literally millions of people searching for information on how to make money on the internet, yet less than 3% of those people ever actually make any money. The difference between those that succeed and those that do not is that the ones who make money don’t back down when faced with the same challenges that all online marketers face. It comes down to this, you have to delete the phrase, “I can’t” from your vocabulary. Don’t be one of the 97% that give up right before you strike gold.

Could These Be The Reasons Your MLM Business Is Failing?

Filed Under (MLM) by Kevin Sinclair on 20-12-2006

Today, many people are interested in obtaining financial freedom. Many also will look at a multi-level marketing (MLM) business as a way to reach their goals. The problem is that about 95% of those who get involved with MLM fail. Let’s take a closer look at why many such home-based businesses are set up to fail from the start.

Reason #1: Most opportunities are way too similar. They just try too hard to copy each other. Plus, the products and services are boring. To make matters worse, the marketplace the company is serving isn’t growing very quickly. This type of home-based business screams failure.

Reason #2: Many home-based MLM business opportunities force people to do everything by themselves. It’s unfortunate, but businesses are loaded with all kinds of headaches and hassles. It’s a huge struggle just to keep things going, market, and build a list. There are too many challenges and no help! The end result of this type of opportunity: people will quit!

Reason #3: Most home-based business opportunities will never make their affiliates rich or obtain financial freedom. Scams abound. This is very sad since most people’s goal is to develop long-term wealth. The bottom line: people must look for a business that is already making other average people wealthy, and that is easily duplicated. The fact is, there are legitimate home-based business opportunities that offer this.

Reason #4: The majority of home-based businesses do not pay much in upfront cash. Unfortunately, many times people are paid in small sums. Low cost products and services are offered with a small percentage profit. To make matters worse, people put in tremendous effort and time only to wait around to get paid. No one should ever get involved with this type of opportunity if they want to succeed.

Reason #5: Many MLM home-based businesses are filled with gaps and missing pieces. There is so much hype. However, when it all dies down and one takes a closer look at what’s being offered, they find the work-at-home opportunity is pure fluff and fiction. Basically, the home-based business opportunity is just a good idea that someone is trying. If the opportunity is researched, what usually is discovered is that only the heavy hitters make the money, the company behind it is getting rich, and the products and services being sold are only to the distributors! This would be a horrible type of business to become involved in.

Reason #6 Many MLM home-baaed business opportunities are very risky. They are filled with problems, pain, and frustration. As a result, business opportunity seekers view them as a risk and don’t want to become involved with them. They know starting a business from home has to be right and if they see red flags, they will avoid it. Sometimes, people become so skeptical that they never choose a business at all. They fail to realize the right business opportunity can be found and worked without the headaches.

The truth is, home-based MLM businesses can work. It simply takes time and careful research to choose the right one. Avoid the problems discussed in this article and you will be sure to find the MLM home business for you.

Home Based Business Opportunities

Filed Under (Home Business) by Kevin Sinclair on 15-12-2006

It seems home based business opportunities are a bit more common in the US than in Europe. However the European marketplace is quickly catching on to the phenomenon of home based business and network marketing. The advantages of a home based business are evident: low cost, flexible working hours and tax benefits, to name but a few. But these advantages have pretty much been there for many years, so why the sudden growth? Why do so many people start their own home based business right now, and why would network marketing be a good thing to consider for so many others?

First of all there was worldwide economic uncertainty and many economies were either facing a recession or in the middle of one. You could turn open any newspaper and you not miss articles on companies downsizing and laying off employees by the thousands. Network marketing offers people the chance to create a part time auxiliary income, right beside their day job. This kind of extra income has proven a great help to many families across the world. Of course many network marketers have made a full time living out of there business. Some of them have made fortunes. But this level of success, although available to anyone who is willing to do the work, will not be for most people. Most network marketers run a part time business for a small number of hours a week earning them a couple hundred bucks a month.

Then there is the phenomenon of cocooning, where the consumer tries to shield itself from all sorts of marketing messages. Do-no-call lists are in place, making it harder and harder for companies to get their messages across to the consumer. Network marketing, which is based on moving a service or product to the end consumer based on personal relationships, delivers a strong answer to these challenges. More and more traditional companies have discovered that network marketing is a very cost effective way to reach consumers.

Of course we can’t forget about the internet. This technology has greatly helped making the world smaller, making it easier to find and disperse information. Network marketing companies have pioneered the internet to inform, train and motivate their independent distributors.

The cost of home office equipment has decreased considerably. These days you can set up a home office for just a couple hundred bucks. Some may argue that you don’t even need that much. Any computer with an internet connection and a phone would be enough for most network marketers to operate their business. This makes it affordable for everyone to start a home based business. Compare this to the cost of running a normal business and it becomes clear why more and more people are being attracted to a home based opportunity.

And then there is the growing lack of trust in the corporate world. Not too long ago, people where quite used to having a job for life. Or at least until they decided to quit. Nowadays many people have come to realize that job security is a joke. Too many people have lost their jobs more than once only to find out that they were nothing but a number to their corporate employer. It’s not just the fact that you have to go out to find another job to feed your family. It’s also the fact that you’ve been listening to your employer bloating about the importance of their human assets when in the end in turns the employees where just considered human asses.

Network marketing not only offers people a chance to create some extra income, it also provides them with the opportunity to get some of their dignity back. Helping them realize that they don’t necessarily have to depend on their employers pay check. The support structures that many good network marketing companies offer are a great help to individuals joining this type of business. Not only will they receive the proper training on their company’s products and services. They will also be educated on personal development

The advantages of a home based business are evident and in the near future we will certainly see more of it. Looking at today’s trends in the economy it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the era of monolithic companies offering jobs for life has ended. It’s time to have the courage to bet on yourself again and home based business is a good way to do so. And for those people that decide to take this step, taking a serious look at network marketing is just common sense. Even in a time where common sense isn’t that common anymore.
