Everyone working a full time job has days when they think that starting a home based business might be better. There are several reasons for this, but most people neglect to ask themselves whether they are, in fact, ready to start one. Asking this question means that you have seriously thought through the implications of running a business and the requirements, sacrifices, and lifestyle alterations you may need to make.

Once you have thought about all the aspects of running your own home based business, the next obvious question is the nature of the business you wish to promote. There are virtually unlimited opportunities available to the home business seeker. There are all sorts of affiliate programs out there and many of them offer some sort of residual income plan. Then there are the MLM, multi-level marketing, systems that also offer great incomes. You need to evaluate these options and find the one that suits you best.

Choosing the right home based business is not a 5-minute task, but is itself a small project that needs careful handling.

One reason why everyone looks to a home based business is that it is no longer practical to rely on your employer or the government to take care of you once you retire. The stock market was a great standby for many but then there is always the inherent factor of risk that can make the market plunge without notice that does not make for comfortable thinking, especially when your retirement savings are tied in.

Having your own home based business and working towards a residual income is a great way to providing yourself with the insurance of a comfortable retirement. Residual income is income that continues to generate itself even when you are not making any effort.

Royalties are a classic example of a residual income. You write a book or record a song and as long as the product keeps selling, you will continue to receive royalty payments. You make only one effort in the beginning and then just sit back while the money keeps coming in. Write several books or songs and you can see how this can lead to serious money.

However, it is not possible for every one of us to write a book or record a hit album and so we need some other means of generating residual income. What all of us can do is recommend products and services that we find useful and beneficial. This is where home based business comes into the picture and especially MLM. Most of us are already recommending products to others but we just never realize it because we have never thought about it.

The way MLM works is that you recommend their products or services to other people. So, if the MLM company makes something, like a good shampoo, and you make a sale once, then every time that consumer buys that shampoo, you keep getting commissions. You only have to make the sale once.

The true residual factor comes in when your customers recommend the same product to more people. This does not even require you to do anything called work. The moment your customers start bringing in customers of their own, it begins an infinite cycle where every new customer in this chain will give you some percentage as a commission merely for having started this process. In short, you could be generating a huge income doing nothing.

The toughest part in this is to make that first sale, or number of sales, to such customers who are good at bringing in more customers of their own. This involves network marketing skills that require some amount of training.

There is no shortage of MLM businesses or training materials on the Internet. The businesses deal with a wide range of products and you can certainly take your pick of them.

Just remember that, though this sounds very good, it is still a business and like any other business, you will need to work at it before you begin seeing results. Do not expect overnight success despite all the testimonials you see out there. You need to think like a business owner who knows how to plan and create strategies to succeed.

Home business requires you to set aside at least 20 hours per week that you spend on building your business and promoting the products of your choice. You will eventually need to find means of recruiting people who can help grow your network of customers and co-affiliates that will generate further sales for you.

Once you have a good sized network, things become automatic and residual income becomes a reality.

How To Create Your MLM Prospecting System

One of the most important aspects of your MLM business is generating prospects. Without prospects, you have no leads, resulting in no downline growth, ultimately ending in your MLM business fizzling out, and dying on you.

You may already be aware of the importance that prospects are in your MLM business, but at the same time you may be wondering how people in your upline manage to find quality prospects easily, while you struggle tooth and nail in order to get just one. The difference between you and prospecting superstars in your MLM business may be that they have mastered a prospecting system. The good news is that a prospecting system is easier to create than you think.

Components Of A Prospecting System

Your prospecting system should be comprised of four steps, taken one after another. There are no hard rules on how you achieve these steps. However, they must be followed in a sequence. By skipping steps, or starting with the last step first, you will be no better off than when you didn’t have any system in place. So let’s take a look at these steps, in order.

Seeking

The first step in your system is to seek out people to talk to. You need to find no less than one person each day to talk to about your business. So your first step is to put yourself into daily positions where you are in contact with large numbers of people that you have the opportunity to communicate with.

Seeking out someone to talk to isn’t really that hard. If you are a parent, seek other parents at the school yard, if you go shopping, try seeking out people who are waiting in line at the supermarket. Everywhere you go, see it as an opportunity to find interested prospects to talk to.

Exposure

Your next step is to expose the person to an idea. This should be a brief example that takes around 30 seconds. At this point, you want to interest your prospect enough for them to want to lean more. Don’t give away the whole story to your prospect right there at the shopping center, just offer them the opportunity to learn more if they are interested.

At the exposure step, you can also use some handy MLM tools, such as CD’s, brochures, or even DVDs that are emotionally charged, but brief, and to the point. Your prospect can take these things home, watch them, and contact you for more information if they are interested in the business opportunity or products that you are offering. At this stage, you are weeding out those who are interested in listening to more about the business from those who are not interested at all.

Sorting

In the sorting process, you will be sorting your contacts, or prospects that you have come across daily into two groups. Those who are open to new ideas and interested in what you have to say, and those who are closed to new ideas, and are not interested in your message. This is a vital step in your system, as you don’t want to waste efforts on those who aren’t interested instead of spending time with prospects who are really interested in your MLM opportunity.

Those who are open to ideas, and willing to listen to you, deserve your time, and effort. These are the people that you will be taking note of, and moving them on to the next step of the system. One of the easiest ways to weed out the interested people from those who are not interested is to ask them questions such as, did the promotional material you gave them make any sense, did they enjoy the CD you gave them, or had they watched the DVD, and did they have any questions about it. The responses that you receive from these questions will give you an answer on what the person is thinking, and if they are interested enough in the opportunity to progress to the last step.

Filtering

Your last step is to filter those who want to learn more about the opportunity now, and those who are mildly interested, but not ready to learn more at this stage. The prospects who are ready to progress further with the opportunity need to be introduced to your MLM upline system, and shown a presentation on how the MLM business works, and the types of products and services that are available to them.

For those who are mildly interested, but not willing to progress to the next step of the MLM opportunity, you need to file them away for now, and follow up on them later on with a phone call. Before filing away a prospect, make sure to ask their permission to keep in contact with them, and keep them updated on the opportunity.

By following these four steps, you are able to seek out people, expose them to your message, and sort out those who are interested, filter the ones out who are ready to learn more about the opportunity, and are ready to take part. By implementing this prospecting system, you keep on top of the prospecting process, and teach you how to use your time to your best advantage.

Network marketing is not easy. I will not lie. But, insaying that there is a little known way to absolutely ensure your success.

Before we get to the secret let’s do a little ground work to set the stage for HUGE and quick success in network marketing.

Most people jump into a new home bus’iness on a hope and dream.

They look at the compensation plan and the testimonials involved with the network marketing company that they are about to join and see the vision.

They say “Man … IF I max out this plan I’ll be making $40,000 a month and I’ll never have to work again! Let’s give it try!”

They fill themselves up with anticipation for the windfall of cash that is on the way and they sit back and wait for the money to come to them.

Then a month later after they go through a few trails and try a few things unsuccessfully they say . . . “Why isn’t this working?”

Then the next month when they put in half the effort they put in their first month and nothing happens again they quit and say they were scammed.

My question to you is . . . were they scammed?

You see, before you start any Network Marketing business you have to do a little bit more homework than just look at the compensation plan and the testimonials. You have to really research what you are about to get yourself into.

What type of research do you have to do? What questions should you ask?

Here they are:

- How long has the company been around?

- What is the product?

- Is the product unique?

- Does the product have mass appeal?

- Is the product a front runner in an emerging market?

- Can you become passionate about the product?

- Does the business have a powerful marketing system in place?

- Who are the successful people in this business?

- What are the successful people doing to create that success?

- Is the product something that the majority of the public can afford?

- Am I personally financial stable enough to start a new business?

- What type of a monthly marketing budget will I have to set aside to be successful?

- What are the conversion statistics for the marketing process?

- Is the business truly duplicable?

- What would be my break even point?

- Is there a way to make money quickly with this business or is there a way that I can create a quick income in marketing this business?

- Etc.

You see it’s not just the opportunity that has to be correct. You TOO have to be correct for the opportunity and you have to be in a financial position to take advantage of the opportunity at hand.

Way too many times I see people joining my business that jump in on a hope and a dream.

They have barely enough money to pay for there monthly membership commitment and yet they still want to know the fastest way to grow their business for FREE.

When people get caught up in the emotion of opening the possibility for more in their life sometimes they don’t think clearly. They think if they can just get themselves in they will get rich.

It’s not just about getting yourself in.

It’s about getting yourself in and putting yourself in a position to be able to fully maximize the opportunity at hand.

I get asked the following WRONG question all the time.

“How long until I make money?”

It’s not about how long until you make money it’s about what you have to do to make money.

The truth is you could put yourself in a profitable situation tomorrow or today, but it would take resources and a good deal of learning to know how to do it.

The truth is, the fast way is never the FREE way. It’s either going to take you a good deal of money to put yourself in a profitable position or a good deal of education and leverage, and most of the time both.

There is no luck factor.

You don’t earn money until you are worth of the income you produce. As the great Earl Nightingale always says “You have to be worth more than you are getting paid for your inc0me to grow.”

This is the natural state of all things and it’s not going to change. In order for your inc0me to grow you must grow.

Now . . .

Let me back up for a second to say that you CAN create a large amount of success in Network Marketing for free, but not until you know how.

How to Find the Right Networking Marketing Opportunity

You finally decided to join the thousands of others who work from home. The home business you decide to pursue is network marketing.

Now, before you just up and join any network marketing company that looks good on the surface, seems to have a good product, etc. and so forth, STOP! Why stop? Because there are crucial steps you need to take to avoid being in the 93% failure rate of most people who join a network marketing company. Follow these tips and you will way ahead of many other home-based business opportunity seekers.

Tip #1: Commit to doing your research FIRST. I can’t say enough how important this is. Starting a home-based business is a big decision and should never be done hastily and without careful thought. Commit to doing 5 or 6 hours of research on a number of companies. This one simple tip can greatly increase your level of success and save you years of frustration, being scammed, and most importantly, quitting.

Tip #2: When looking at a network marketing opportunity, make sure the product the company promotes meets the needs of a hot and hungry market. In other words, whatever company you are looking to join, make sure there are people out there clamoring for the product and would buy it even if there were no business opportunity associated with it.

You see, many people get so emotionally attached to a product or outcome that they totally miss the importance of seeing if there is even a market for it. If there is no market, you will have no success at all.

When researching if there is a hot and hungry market for a product, Overture.com is a great way to see how many people are searching for any particular product or service in a given month. If your research shows only 1,000 people are searching for a product, it would be a waste of time for you to join a network marketing company that sells it. However, if you see searches for 30,000, 50,000, 100,000 or even more, you are on the right track!

Tip #4:
Check out the competitors of a product. Go the search engines Yahoo, Google, and MSN and look at the first 10 companies that are listed. If the first 10 are the same company, it’s not good. However, if there are a variety of companies selling the product, this is good because it means that there is more of a demand for it.

Tip #5: Use Overture’s bid tool. By doing this, you will be able to see if there are many people interested in a product and how much they are willing to pay per click to have folks come and visit their site. If there isn’t a lot of bidding going, that’s a bad sign. If there are quite a few people bidding on a specific term related to the product the network marketing opportunity promotes, that is a very good thing.

These are simple strategies and tools you can use to research if the network marketing opportunity is worth your time and money. If you follow these tips, and your research shows the home-based business opportunity is worth pursuing, go for it!
