Affiliate marketing is an easy place to start an on-line business. They are easy to begin, but call for either much work if you do it on the cheap or the expense of hiring someone to do it for you if you want it to be successful.
1. Pick a Market.
Why pick out a market rather than a product? The reason is clear because you will want to put more products in your pipeline. You want to select a market that you will enjoy doing or after a while, you will hate doing it.
There are many search tools available and you need to get detailed data. How many searches are being done? Are people looking or buying? How much competition do you have? Big companies with big budgets can bury you in the dozens of back end search pages.
2. Pick a Product.
Once you have picked a specific market, it is time to choose a product. This important to research because a great product is of no value unless people are buying it. Find one good product that is selling well and test the market.
In the beginning you will want to add all the products, but this is not advisable. If you add more products, your attention will be diverted and you will not be effective. Therefore, you need to select one and make some sales before adding others.
3. Set up an autoresponder such as aweber.
As soon as your business is on-line, you will need to follow up with your visitors. Studies show most people do not buy on the first visit. By collecting visitor’s emails, you can contact them again with more information and special offers. The best way to do this is with an autoresponder.
In addition, the auto responder can give more product details and information. It can provide a place and method to buy. Afterwards show customers how to get their product and offer them others. Most auto responder programs will give you training and help with setting them up.
You will want to become more and more creative by studying other marketers and stores. See how they do it and then imitate the successful ones. Usually, during the first few months, most marketers do not do well. But as time goes by and promotion continues, the sales will grow. 6 months is normal.
4. Build a page to capture emails.
Create a page (called a squeeze page) to get your visitors email addresses. This way, you can send a series of follow up emails to remind your visitors of what they were looking at on your site. You can also make other offers this way.
5. Use Traffic Generation Methods.
Once your Website is up, use various traffic generation methods to bring traffic to your site. Use of more than one is desirable. Track and compare results, then continue with the best methods.
6. Find Other Related Products.
When your income becomes good and dependable with an individual product, then you will want to add other products. This should be done with more research to find some hot, in demand product. If it does not sell, you are just wasting time and money promoting it. So choose wisely.
To recap, you should always start with a single hot, in demand product to get a good income. Focus on this product until it is profitable. Collect visitor’s emails and build a customer list. Use these to mount a good marketing campaign. After you are making money, add more products to your offering.
Do not bounce around from product to product or program to program. All this does is distract you from making sales.
Stay away from “get-rich-quick” and “no work” scams. The only people making money with these are the ones selling them.
If you do the research and pick a good product, then with proper promotion the sales will follow. If after a reasonable time, (6 months) you are not making any money, it is time to look for other products.
To your success.
